ATLANTA, GA (Forbes Arena) --Darryl Myers grabbed 10 rebounds, but the Fayetteville State men's basketball team fell to the Morehouse Maroon Tigers 56-54 at Saturday.
Myers added six points to his 10-rebound game for the Broncos (1-4). Cress Worthy helped out with 16 points and four assists and D'Marco Baucum chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
Fayetteville State grabbed 36 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Morehouse's 26, led by Myers' 10 boards. The Broncos also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 16 rebounds into 18 second chance points.
The Fayetteville State defense held Morehouse shooters to just 36.7 percent from the field. The Maroon Tigers did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only six offensive rebounds and scored two second chance points while Fayetteville State pulled down 20 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 3-0, Fayetteville State went on a 9-0 run with 18:01 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Marcus Elliott, to take a 9-3 lead. The Broncos then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 21-19.
Morehouse kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 50-46 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Tyler Foster's layup, to seize a 51-50 lead with 2:16 to go in the contest. Morehouse re-asserted control, outscoring the Broncos 6-3 the rest of the way to hand Fayetteville State the 56-54 loss. Fayetteville State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 35 points.
