Fayetteville State falls 70-54 to Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team got a 19-point performance from the bench, but fell 70-54 to the Augusta Jaguars on the road Sunday.

The Broncos (1-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Cress Worthy, who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Foster added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Kaleb Coleman added nine points and two steals.

The Fayetteville State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 25 attempts. Coleman was the most prolific shooter for the Broncos, draining three treys in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 6-2, Fayetteville State went on a 6-0 run with 15:23 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Coleman, to take an 8-6 lead. The Broncos then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 40-32.

Augusta kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 56-36 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Foster's layup, to shrink the deficit to 56-43 with 10:27 to go in the contest. Augusta responded and outscored the Broncos the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-54. Fayetteville State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for nine of its 22 total points.
