BOWIE, MD --Tony Hauser pulled down 10 rebounds, and the Fayetteville State men's basketball team beat the Frostburg State Bobcats 69-65 at A.C. Jordan Arena Saturday.
Hauser tacked on nine points to his 10-rebound game for the Broncos (1-1). Cress Worthy helped out with 17 points and Marcus Elliott chipped in with 13 points.
The Fayetteville State offense was very productive from three point land, making 10 threes on 25 attempts. Kaleb Coleman was the most prolific shooter for the Broncos, draining three treys in the contest.
Fayetteville State forced 16 Frostburg State turnovers. The Broncos turned those takeaways into 18 points on the other end of the floor.
How It Happened
After falling behind 20-15, Fayetteville State went on a 5-0 run with 8:06 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Hauser, to tie the game at 20. The Broncos then proceeded to grab a 34-29 lead heading into halftime. Fayetteville State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 34 points.
Following intermission, Fayetteville State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 37-31 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Elliott's three, to grow the lead to 42-31 with 16:36 to go in the contest. The Bobcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Broncos still held on for the 69-65 win. Fayetteville State capitalized on seven Frostburg State turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers.
