Efficient Offense from Spikes Propels Broncos Past Johnson C. Smith, 3-2

CHARLOTTE,NC --Xiamana Spikes collected 12 kills with a .500 attack percentage to help power the Fayetteville State volleyball team to a 3-2 win (25-15, 21-25, 18-25, 25-17, 15-10) against the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Monday on the road at Brayboy Gym.

The win moved the Broncos' record to 7-8 overall, 6-1 in CIAA action, and 4-0 in Southern Division play. Johnson C. Smith drops to 3-8, 1-5, and 1-2 in the division.

The Broncos' offense was paced by Spikes, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .500, and by Kailyn Williams, who had 11.Casandra Watson also pitched in with six in the contest. Defensively, FSU had two players reach double figures in digs as Jordan Johnson had 16 and Watson had 12. From the front row, Spikes contributed five blocks.

SET 1 | The Broncos took control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-15. Fayetteville State opened up its biggest lead, 10 points, to finish off the set, totaling 15 kills. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Johnson C. Smith attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State lost the second set 25-21 to even the match 1-1. Johnson C. Smith grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Golden Bulls took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | A set-three loss put Fayetteville State behind 2-1. The Broncos fell in a tough set 25-18. Fayetteville State trailed by as many as seven points as Johnson C.
