Salisbury, NC (January 19, 2022) – Fayetteville State University commanded a 61-40 victory over Livingstone College in Salisbury for its first divisional victory of the season. The Broncos (6-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference) were led by the scoring duo of
Aniylah Bryant (12 points) and
Rasheka Simmons (11 points). The Blue Bears drop to 3-11 on the season and 2-4 in the CIAA. LC is 0-2 in the Southern Division as FSU improves to 1-1.
Livingstone struggled to find their mark all game shooting 23.1% (12-52) from the floor. Their 1-of-13 from the field in the first quarter allowed Fayetteville State to lead 13-8. The Broncos extended that lead to ten (29-19) just before halftime.
Following intermission, the lead hit 36-20 (16) off a three-pointer by
London Thompson; her only points in the game. From there FSU went through a cold spell, making 3-of-14 shots and eight points in the quarter. Livingstone was able to close the gap to four (37-33) going into the final stanza.
Fayetteville State dialed up the pressure in the fourth quarter to force six turnovers and convert them into 13 points. Simmons scored 9 of her 11 points in the quarter. The lead was back at double-digits (11) following a jumper by
Imani Elliott to set the score at 51-40.
Fayetteville State ended the game on a 15-0 run after Livingstone scored their basket with 4:53 left in the game.
