Tigerville, SC – Fayetteville State Volleyball will return home with a 3-1 performance at the North Greenville Tournament in Tigerville, SC. The Broncos defeated UVA-Wise 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, and 25-17.
Kalee Vanderhorst was the stand-out performer with a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs.
Xiamana Spikes assisted with 11 kills and 5 blocks.
FSU took a two-set lead with identical scores of 25-23. In the third set, UVA-Wise opened play with four unanswered points and maintain at least a two-point advantage throughout the set. Down 17-11, FSU put together a three-point run to close the gap to 14-17 but UVA-Wise countered with a run of its own to set the score to 22-16. The Broncos rallied with another run to trail by two (19-22) but Wise would hold the advantage for a 25-21 victory.
Fayetteville State meshed three scoring runs in the fourth set to secure the victory. The first run was a 5-0 spurt that put the Broncos ahead 11-7. The second run was another 5-0 rally and a 19-13 lead. The final run was fueled by three blocks by Spikes who received assistance from
Aeyane Mattress and
Kyra Webb. The run created a 23-16 score. After a Bronco attack error, Spikes put down a kill from a
Jaida Bynum assist for a match-point.
Kyra Webb ended the match with her only service ace of the match.
Fayetteville State will travel to Murfreesboro, NC on Tuesday to take on Chowan University at 7 pm.
