Tigerville, SC – Fayetteville State had an early morning matchup against Columbia International in the North Greenville Tournament and the Broncos seemed to be reeling over the previous night's lost battle to North Greenville. FSU eventually conquered its challenges to improve to 2-1 on the season with a 3-2 victory over the CIU Rams.
Kalee Vanderhorst led all with 20 kills.
Xiamana Spikes put down 12 kills of her own and complimented her performance with ten blocks.
Jaida Bynum finished with a team-high 30 assists.
Columbia International won the first advantage with a 26-24 set to open the day. The Broncos got its act together to take the next two sets 25-22 and 25-17 but let the Rams even out the match with a fourth 25-22 victory.
In the final deciding set, both teams volleyed back-and-forth until the tied score of 11-all. Vanderhorst put down a kill from
Jasmine Jacinto's assist and served up an ace to get FSU a 13-11 lead.
Xiamana Spikes and
Kyra Webb blocked an CIU attack for match-point.
Jaida Bynum set up Webb to end the match with a spiked kill for the 15-11 set.
