Tigerville, SC – Fayetteville State traveled to Tigerville, South Carolina to set off the 2021 volleyball season in the North Greenville University Tournament. FSU won a hard-fought five-set 3-2 victory over Southern Wesleyan.
Da'Nesha Miller (11) and
Kalee Vanderhorst (10) combined for 21 kills with assistance from 26 assists by
Jaida Bynum.
Jasmine Jacinto collected 37 digs.
The Broncos fell short in its first set, 25-21, but found its niche in the next two taking a 3-1 advantage with 25-17 and 25-8 wins. Southern Wesleyan bounced back 25-22 in the fourth set to even the game.
In the final set and the score tied 5-5, Southern Wesleyan began to falter with three attack errors that gave FSU a 9-5 advantage. SWU would close the gap to 10-12 but a pair of kills by Vanderhorst would set the Broncos up for match-point. Miller would end it all at 15-11 with a spiked kill.
