Aiken, SC (December 4, 2021) – Fayetteville State led by as much as five (41-36) over USC Aiken (5-3 overall) early in the second half but failed to closeout in a 75-68 loss to the Pacers. FSU (4-5 overall) led 37-36 at the half behind solid performances by
Cress Worthy and
Jalen Seegars.
Worthy wasn't too far off from his career performance of 28 points against Virginia State on Wednesday. Against USC Aiken, Cress led the game with 23 points and five assists. Seegars trailed with 21 points of his own with seven rebounds and two blocks.
In the second half, USC Aiken went on a 9-0 run to over-take the five-point deficit. The Broncos responded to tie the game at 48 with 13:39 left from a three-pointer by Seegars. A fast-break layup by Seegars thanks to the assists from Worthy put FSU up again.
After another run (6-0) by the Pacers, FSU would work its way back to lead by three (62-59) with a little over five minutes left.
Tehree Horn, who led USC Aiken with 17 points, hit his fifth three-pointer of the game to give the Pacers a 65-62 advantage with 4:06 on the clock.
For the game, USC-A scored 20 points off the Broncos' 12 turnovers. FSU had three turnovers in the final two minutes that led to a nine-point Pacer lead with 18 seconds remaining.
All five starters for USC Aiken finished in double-figures. The Pacers shot 50% from the field, making 29-of-58 shots, and 55.6% of their three-pointers (10-18).
Fayetteville State made 27 of 59 shots (45.8%) and attempted 16 three-pointers, for which the Broncos made six (37.5%).
The Broncos will host Methodist University next Saturday in Capel Arena at 2 p.m.
