FSU Broncos Hold onto 69-65 Win over Virginia State

Ettrick, VA (December 18, 2021) – Fayetteville State led by as many as ten (57-47) against Virginia State in Ettrick, VA with seven minutes to go and held on for a 69-65 victory to complete a season sweep of the Trojans. Cress Worthy shot a game-high 21 points with five made three-pointers.
 
The Broncos (7-5 overall, 2-0 CIAA) made it count at the free-throw line, sinking 17-of-20 attempts (80%), and took advantage of Virginia State's (3-6 overall, 0-2 CIAA) 11 turnovers with 14 points.
 
After the 36-32 halftime score in favor of FSU, the game was tied at 38 within the first three minutes of the second half. Worthy knocked down back-to-back threes to take final control of the game as the Broncos pushed the lead up to ten with 7:02 left in the game. FSU went 10-for-12 at the line in the final four minutes of the game to secure the win.
 
Jalen Seegars was a perfect 10-10 at the line in his 17-point game. Zion Cousins dominated the boards with 16 rebounds (10 defensively) 8 blocks, and 7 points.
 
Terrence Hunter-Whitfield scored 19 points for Virginia State and Francis Fitzgerald was a point behind with 18. Jordan Hernandez added ten points.
 
Fayetteville State will travel to Elizabeth City State for a 7:30 tip on Monday, December 20th.
