Raleigh, NC (December 15, 2021) – Fayetteville State utilized an aggressive third quarter to overpower Shaw in its 80-49 conference opener victory in Raleigh, NC. The Broncos (4-4 overall, 1-0 CIAA) established a 23-1 run in the third quarter to advance from a 31-27 halftime standing to a 59-33 advantage after three quarters. The Bears drop to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Keayna McLaughlin, who led the Broncos with 18 points for the game, had nine points during the run.
Rasheka Simmons played a complete game with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals, and 5 assists.
Aniylah Bryant and
Flore Ngasamputu both finished with 12 points each.
London Thompson led the game with 11 rebounds to go along with her 6 assists and 5 points.
Fayetteville State forced the Bears to commit 22 turnovers with 16 steals. The high-pressure defense led to 24 points from the miscues and 20 fast break points. The Broncos also out-rebounded Shaw 51-26.
Shaw's Makenzie Pollard led the game with 21 points. The Bears led by seven points in the first quarter (5:43) before the game broke away in favor of the Broncos.

th and to Elizabeth City State on Monday the 20
th before the Holiday break.
