Cress Worthy finished with a career-high game 28 points to lead Fayetteville State (4-4 overall) and came up with a critical steal to propel FSU over Virginia State 69-66 in a non-conference CIAA game in Capel Arena. The Trojans fall to 3-4 overall, as Francis Fitzgerald's led the effort with 21 points.

In the first half of play, both teams battled hard with three game ties and six lead changes. The second half kept the crowd on their feet as the lead continued to alternate between the two teams. Fayetteville State led by as much as ten points with 11:41 left in the game. But the Trojans fought back to tie the game once again at the 8:00 mark, 51-51.

With 1:59 left in the game, Fayetteville State built a 67-60 lead before VSU went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead down to one, 67-66.

With adequate time to score, Worthy came up with a critical steal and drew a foul that landed him on the free-throw line. He clinched the game by hitting both needed free throws with 3 seconds left to give the Broncos the 69-66 victory.

Fayetteville State will travel to Aiken, South Carolina to take on USC Aiken at 3:30 pm on December 4th.
