FSU Broncos Slip 62-48 to Virginia Union in Non-Conference Slate

Richmond, VA – Fayetteville State men's basketball team exhibited a lethargic performance in Richmond, Virginia in a non-conference tune-up against Virginia Union University. The Broncos (3-4 overall) suffered a 62-48 loss to the 4-1 Panthers after trailing 24-22 at the half.
 
Torian Jordan led FSU from off the bench with a dozen points. Jalen Seegars scored 10 and Koraan Clemonts added eight. Zion Cousins led the rebounding effort with eight pulldowns and four points. Darian Dixon followed with seven rebounds and five points.
 
Virginia Union presented a full-court press most of the game which dropped back to an extended zone that presented a challenge for FSU. Fayetteville State struggled from the field shooting 31.5% with 17 field goals from 54 attempts. The percentage from the three-point arc was a little better at 37.5% (9-of-24). The Broncos made 11 trips to the free-throw line with five made attempts.
 
The Panthers shot the ball 62 times, making 25 of them for 40.3%. They were a little conservative from beyond the arc with 12 attempts but only one made. VUU made 11 of 18 free throws (61.1%). Virginia Union also won the battle on the boards with 40 rebounds to FSU's 31. The Broncos only had nine offensive which were converted to six second-chance points.
 
The pressure defense forced Fayetteville State into 20 turnovers. The Panthers, who only had nine steals, took advantage of the miscues to score 17 points off turnovers.
 
Robert Osborne led Virginia Union with 13 points as Darius Hines and Raemaad Wright had nine each.
 
Fayetteville State will have another non-conference tune-up against Virginia State on Wednesday, December 1st in Capel Arena at 7:00 pm.
