Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State's Head Coach
Luke D'Alessio developed a tough opening schedule for the Broncos to build character after a COVID year and develop a sense of toughness that could help FSU in the latter part of the season.
The Broncos (2-3 overall) had a tough time today in Capel Arena with a 74-65 loss to 3-0 Augusta University.
Jalen Seegars and
Darian Dixon scored 25 and 24 points, respectively, but the Jaguars had five players to finish in double figures.
Fayetteville State opened the game with a 10-1 lead before a three-pointer by Augusta at 14:49 broke the run. The Broncos would maintain a lead for most of the first half until a three-point gave AU a 28-27 lead. The Jaguars would extend the lead to five (34-29) going into intermission.
The second half would be all Augusta. The five-point lead at halftime would double (44-34) within the first four minutes of the half. Fayetteville State would get no closer than three (65-59) with 5:59 left before the Jaguars reached their largest lead of the game (11; 72-61) at 1:55.
Fayetteville State shot 40.4% from the floor after making 21 of 52 attempts. The Jaguars were not too far off with 26-of-57 for 45.6%. FSU had more rebounds (38-to-29) but also had more turnovers with 15-over-8. Augusta's points of turnovers added up to 15 points.
