FSU Broncos Defeat Chowan 80-57 in Home Opener

Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State men's basketball defeated Chowan, 80-57, in the Broncos home-opener in Capel Arena.  Jalen Seegars led the game with a double-double of a game-high 23 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

"It was tremendous to play in front of our fans," said Head Coach Luke D'Alessio. "We have terrific fans!

The thing I like about Jalen from day one is that he just plays so hard."

Seegars is averaging 18.3 points a game with three games played. He scored 20 against Shepherd and 12 against Mercyhurst.

His two-time teammate Cress Worthy, who also transferred from UNC Asheville to play for FSU, contributed 14 points with four assists.

Zion Cousins and Darian Dixon had 12 points each.

The first half was tightly played as FSU led by four at the half, 37-33. After the start of the second half, Chowan closed the gap to one with a three-pointer, but the Broncos went on a 6-0 run by just hitting free throws. Before the first media timeout of the half, that six-point lead grew to ten (48-38) at the 14:31 mark.

A 10-0 spurt put the Broncos ahead 58-41 and the lead kept growing. Fayetteville State's largest lead of the game (+25) was with 2:43 left and Isaiah Ray nailed a trifecta.
