Shepherdstown, WV – Fayetteville State (1-1 overall) had a tough go at it on the second night of the Dave Russell Conference Challenge in Shepherdstown West Virginia. The Broncos dropped 77-60 regional game to 2-0 Mercyhurst University.
Darian Dixon scored a double-double of 19 points with 10 rebounds in the effort.
FSU trailed by one at the half 32-31 as
Jalen Seegars and
Cress Worthy each led with seven points each. Dixon contributed 14 of his points in the second-half. Worthy finished the game with 13 points and Seegars with a dozen.
Fayetteville State held a 48-42 second half lead with 14:41 on the clock before Mercyhurst tied the game at 50 with ten minutes left. From there, the Bronco shooting struggles would lead to one field goal made and 8-of-8 free throws through the remainder of the game.
Fayetteville State will host its home opener against Chowan on Monday night in Capel Arena at 7:00 pm
