FSU Softball Loses a Pair to USC Aiken, 10-2; 10-0

Aiken, SC – The University of South Carolina Aiken (15-5 overall) hit a combined eight home runs to Fayetteville State's one to sweep the Broncos (10-2; 10-0) in non-conference softball action.
 
In the first of the twin-bill, FSU's Lana Reed belted a homer to right center in the second inning for the first run of the game. For the doubleheader, Reed finished 1-out-of-3 at bats with one hit, one run, RBI, and one walk.
 
The Pacers hit their first homerun in the bottom of the second to tie the game, 1-1. Shircoria Bosket also hit though the right center.
 
Mallory Carpenter finished the day 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. She singled up the middle in the third inning of the first game and later advance to second on a passed ball. After reaching third from a hit by Grace Vincent, Mallory stole home on the next play while Vincent was caught stealing in a four-player throw down. The score gave FSU a 2-1 lead headed into the bottom of the inning.
 
This is when the game got out of hand.
 
Brooke Moore hit a two-run homer to give the Pacers a 3-2 lead.  Three batters loaded the bases from two fielding errors and a hit-by-pitch. Deja Robinson then hits a grand slam for a 7-2 lead after three innings.
 
Courtney Strauss hit the fourth homer of the game for the Pacers in the fourth inning. USC Aiken scored twice more in the fifth to end the game, 10-2, with the NCAA eight-run mercy rule.
 
Carpenter also his a double to lead all Bronco batters. Braynka Brown (3-3) suffered the loss in the circle with 2.1 innings pitched. She gave up seven hits and runs with 17 batters faced.
 
In the final game, Anya Adams and Rylie Williams were the only Broncos to get a hit while one was hit by pitch, two were walked and four stuck out.
 
Pitcher Ashlyn Zook (2-3) earned the loss with 12 hits leading to ten runs scored. There were two double hit and four home runs. Brianna Dow with two of them while Bosket and Robinson hit their second.
 
Fayetteville State will host Walsh University (Ohio) on Friday, March 6 at the Lamon Street Park near downtown Fayetteville. The first of the doubleheader will begin at 2:00 pm.
