Fayetteville, NC – Four Broncos scored in double digits as Fayetteville State (15-8 overall, 12-2 CIAA) cruised to a 90-62 blow-out of Claflin (1-23, 1-14 CIAA) in Southern Division basketball in its Felton J. Capel Arena.
Senior
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) was at the top of the ladder for the Broncos with 17 points with
Danica Lucas (Raleigh, NC) finishing with a career best 16 points. Senior
Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC), who scored her 1,000
th point at Claflin, finished tonight's game with 15 points.
London Thompson (Durham, NC) had 14 points.
Fayetteville State was off and running at jump-ball leading the first quarter 20-10 and holding a 25-point lead at halftime with a score of 48-23. Bennett led all scorers in the first half with her game-total 15 points after going 7-for-7 in the field. Hyman had 14 of her 17 points.
Danica Lucas willed her way to the basket in the second half with 15 points.
Fayetteville State scored a total of 31 points of turnovers. Twelve of those points came from the second quarter. FSU also dominated the boards with a whopping 45-24 advantage.
The Broncos will host Winston-Salem State on Saturday, February 15 at 1 pm in Capel Arena.
