London Thompson (Lumberton, NC) ran the floor with a career-best 17 points with six rebounds and four assists in Fayetteville State's 61-54 defeat over Virginia State (8-7 overall) in a CIAA non-conference matchup in Ettrick, Virginia.
Fayetteville State (6-7 overall) led the entire game with an 8-0 run from jump-ball.
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) led the Broncos with 18 points, five assists, and three steals.
Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) tipped in 16 points.
Chantel Williams (Charlotte, NC) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Broncos led 16-9 after the first quarter and 33-20 at the half. Thompson led the first period with seven points while Johnson finished the half with 11 points. FSU led by as many as 19 points (28-9) following a fast break layup by
Shenell Davis (Fayetteville, NC) with 4:42 left in the first half.
Virginia State closed the gap to nine (36-27) after three minutes into the third quarter but another run by FSU pushed the lead to 21 (48-27). Hyman completed a three-point play from a foul to start the run. On the following trip back down the court, Thompson nailed a three and Hyman hit two of her threes to complete the run.
Fayetteville State maintained a double-digit lead until the final 26 seconds when the Trojans trailed by nine (60-51).
The Broncos will play host to Johnson C. Smith on Monday, January 6
th in Capel Arena at 5:30 pm.
