London Thompson’s Double-double Leads FSU in 68-38 Victory Over JC Smith


Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State's London Thompson is on a roll with back-to-back career-best performances. Tonight's double-double tally of 20 points and ten rebounds helped the Broncos improve to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA Southern Division with the 68-38 win over Johnson C. Smith (5-8 overall, 0-2 division) in Capel Arena.
 
Thompson, a transfer from NC Central and native of Lumberton, NC, scored in double digits for the third time this season and grab ten or more rebounds for the second time. Her previous career high was 17 points over the weekend against Virginia State.
 
Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) has been increasing her scoring over the past four games with a season-high 17 points tonight against the Golden Bulls.  Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) was the only other Bronco to finish in double digits.
 
Johnson C. Smith put up a close battle in the first quarter trailing 16-10 but the Broncos reached a double-digit lead of 11 (27-16) at the five-minute mark of the second quarter and the same at halftime with a 34-23 lead.
 
Fayetteville State turned on the pressure in the third limiting JCSU to two field goals and a pair of free throws. FSU outscored the Golden Bulls 12-7 and piled it on in the fourth quarter 22-8. JCSU's last field goal was made with 3:58 left in the game. The remaining points came from free throws.
 
Johnson C. Smith shot 21.5% (14-65) for the game while the Broncos doubled it with 44.4% (24-54). With six three-points made in the game, FSU scored 34 points in the paint to JCSU's 16.
 
Le'Zarea Bowens led the effort for Johnson C. Smith with ten points while Aubrianna Bonner led the boards with 15 rebounds.
 
Fayetteville State will host another Southern Division matchup when Shaw University visits Capel Arena. The women's game will be played at 4:00 pm as a prime-time game. The men's game will tip at 2:00 p.m.
