Pembroke, NC – Fayetteville State played Coker, UNC Pembroke, and UVA-Wise over the weekend at the UNC Pembroke Volleyball Invitational and came out of it with tough learning experiences.
Coker swept the Broncos 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, and 25-18) in the first match of the invitational Saturday.
Casandra Watson (Grifton, NC) led the Broncos' effort with eight kills, while
Jasmine Jacinto (San Antonio, TX) had 12 digs,
Chynna Hunt (Summerville, SC) five blocks, and Nakia McKinnie (Niceville, FL) with 11 assists.
Fayetteville State started out Sunday with a 0-3 loss (25-15, 25-17, and 25-11) to UNC Pembroke. The Broncos had a total of twenty kills, twenty-six attack errors, and ninety-two total attack attempts.
FSU came close in their second match of the day, playing a total of five sets in the 3-2 loss to UVA-Wise (25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, and 15-11).
Diamond Holmes (Raeford, NC) led the Broncos with 15 kills, powered by
Journee Hartsfield's (Louisburg, NC) 24 assists. Meagan Green (Orangeburg, SC) finished with 14 digs and Chynna hunt with 5 blocks.
Head Coach
Reeshemah Johnson takes this weekend's losses as a learning experience for her team. The losses exposed areas that the Broncos need to work on.
"Once we put the pieces together," said Johnson. "We will be ready for conference."
