Mount Olive, N.C. – Fayetteville State Volleyball returned to action after a 15-day hiatus of competition and experienced its valiant effort fall short in a 3-1 loss to the University of Mount Olive, 25-16, 19-25, 16-25, and 23-25 in Mount Olive, NC.
Casandra Watson (Grifton, N.C.) led the effort with 13 kills from 34 total attacks. She also had 16 digs.
Da'Nesha Miller (Hilton Head Island, N.C.) collected 10 kills from 32 attacks while
Nakia Mckinnie (Niceville, Fla.) put up 23 set assists.
Jasmine Jacinto had 26 digs.
The Broncos captured the first set 25-16 after capturing a 12-11 lead and extending it with a 4-0 run. FSU had another 4-0 to hold a 21-13 lead and secured the set behind two kills from
Charli Daniels and a service ace by Jacinto.
After a 6-6 tie in the second set, the Trojans held a 14-7 lead after three FSU attack errors and UMO kills and two service aces. Mount Olive held on for a 25-19 victory.
Fayetteville State had a 15-14 lead in the third set until a 9-0 run sealed the Broncos fate for the set.
FSU jumped to a 4-0 in the fourth set and a 16-10 advantage until the tables turned at the slim 19-16 lead. Mount Olive countered with a 4-1 run to tie the set at 20-all. As the game reached a 23-23 tie, UMO closed out the match with the 25-23 victory.
Fayetteville State will travel to Winston-Salem for a rivalry match with the Rams on Thursday, September 26
th at 6 p.m.
