Bowie, MD – Fayetteville State (5-7 overall, 4-2 CIAA) suffered a 55-39 loss to undefeated Bowie State (11-0, 3-0) in CIAA women's basketball action at the A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Maryland after a low production game.
Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) and
Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) led with 11 points each while the Broncos shot 26.4% from the field, making 14 of 53 shots and 1 of 11 three-pointers. Johnson was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight rebounds.
After a close 9-9 first quarter, Bowie State's 8-0 run in the second helped the Bulldogs pull away 24-13 before ending the half with the 25-17 lead.
FSU sparked to a 6-2 run following intermission but hit a drought as Bowie State's 11-0 run over a three-minute span resulted in a 42-26 lead after three quarters.
Talanya Hutton was the Bulldogs leading scorer with 15 points while two others also finished in double digits. Dynaisha Christian had a double-double of a dozen points and rebounds. Kyaja Williams tipped in ten.
As the 2019 portion of the schedule come to a close, Fayetteville State will host Virginia State on Saturday, January 4, 2020 in Capel Arena at 2 p.m.
