Lincoln, PA – Five Broncos scored in double digits as Fayetteville State (5-6 overall, 4-1 CIAA) defeated D2SIDA No. 5 ranked Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, 80-75, while on a Northern swing of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) knocked down a game-high 26 points, with 6-of-9 three-pointers and a team-high eight rebounds with six assists.
Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) and
Chantel Williams (Charlotte, NC) poured in 14 points each while Williams dished out seven assists.
Jada Faison (Kinston, NC) had a season-high 12 points and
Aminata Johnson tipped in ten before fouling out.
Fayetteville State held a slight edge after the first quarter with a 23-20 lead and a 41-34 advantage at the half. The ranked Lions (11-2 overall, 3-1 CIAA) put forth a comeback effort in the third period with a 21-19 performance until a 14-0 run by the Broncos in the opening two and a half minutes of the fourth quarter set the score at 74-55.
Lincoln mounted another comeback with a 17-2 run in the following four minutes [and 44 seconds] but time would expire in favor of FSU.
Fayetteville State shot 50.8% (30 of 59) from the field and made 10-of-11 (90.9%) free throws.
Kwanza Murray led the Lions with 23 points while Alisia Machado added a 16-point performance. DeAshia Young and Bryanna Brown scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Fayetteville State will play at Bowie State on Saturday, December 21
st prior to the Christmas break.
