Fayetteville State's women's basketball outlasted Elizabeth City State, 60-47, in the Felton J. Capel Arena Monday (December 16) afternoon.

The Broncos advance to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA behind Katisha Hyman's (Chocowinity, NC) game-high 20 points and Chantel Williams (Charlotte, NC) near triple-double stat line of 13 points plus game-high totals of 13 boards and seven assists. Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) was the Broncos' third leading scorer with nine points and four rebounds while Shenell Davis (Fayetteville, NC) led the bench unit with seven points. There were a combined 40 turnovers (23 for ECSU and 17 for FSU) in this game but the Broncos were better at making their opponents pay; outscoring the Vikings 21-11 in points off of turnovers.

Danica Lucas' (Raleigh, NC) three-pointer to open the second quarter gave the Broncos their first lead at 19-16. There would be four more lead changes before FSU took a 28-27 lead into halftime.

Following intermission, the Vikings tied the game at 30-30 before FSU regained the lead on a pair of Williams' made free throws. The Broncos never trailed again following the six-minute mark in the third stanza. In the final minute of the third quarter, Williams connected on two straight baskets, including one from downtown to turn a four-point lead into a 43-34 advantage. The Broncos led by as many as 15 points (60-45) in the final period following a late layup by Hyman.

Elizabeth City State (4-6 overall, 2-2 CIAA) began the game on an 8-0 run before Chantel Williams' three put the Broncos on the board. It was the first of four consecutive three-pointers to start the game for FSU as Williams and Hyman each made a pair of shots from downtown.

Devona Stell led the Hawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Fayetteville State previously defeated Elizabeth City State, 58-47, before the Thanksgiving break for its first win of the season. After tonight's conference victory, the Broncos will be in Pennsylvania to take on the Lincoln Lions Thursday December 19th at 5:30 p.m. and then in Bowie, MD on Saturday (December 21) for a matchup against the Bulldogs.
