The Bronco Stampede Continues; FSU Defeats JC Smith 75-61 for Seven Straight

Charlotte, NC – The FSU Broncos stampede continues with its seventh straight victory after defeating Johnson C. Smith (5-2 overall; 2-1 CIAA) 75-61 in Charlotte, NC.
 
Fayetteville State is not a run-and-gun squad, but it must put up shots to accomplish an established goal of 80 points per game. The Broncos shot 57 field goals for which 31 of them were from behind the arc. Playing an aggressive style of basketball also gave FSU 21 attempts from the charity stripe.
 
Jalen Seegars (Greensboro, NC) scored a game-high 22 points with four of the Broncos ten made three-pointers. Denzell Hosch (Shelby, NC) made three threes for 15 points with a perfect 4-of-4 appearance at the free-throw line. Raymon Pratt (Greensboro, NC) knocked down 14 points with a pair of threes and three field goals in the paint. Darion Dixon (Bowie, MD) finished with ten.
 
Fayetteville State turned up the heat on defense which converted 16 Golden Bulls turnovers into 22 points.
 
Johnson C. Smith captured an early four-point lead (6-2) and remained close until the nine-minute stanza and Mark Burton's (Tokyo, Japan) first two field goals of the game with a layup and a three-ball. Burton finished with eight points and a game-high four assists.
 
Hosch nailed his first three which led to a 7-0 run and a 24-15 lead.
 
Cayse Minor, who led Johnson C. Smith with 15 points, cut the Broncos lead down to one (24-23) but a perfect six-for-six showing from the charity stripe combined with another Hosch three gave FSU a 33-25 halftime lead.
 
FSU shot a better 48.28% (14-of-29) from the floor in the second half compared to 35.71% (10-of-28) from the first. The Broncos improved from 20% (3-of-15) from beyond the arc in the first period to 43.75% with 7-of-16 made in the second. Fayetteville State was 81% from the charity stripe with 17 of 21 made.
 
Johnson C. Smith shot 36.5% (19 of 52) from the field and 27.8% in three-pointers. The Golden Bulls were 78.3% (18-23) in free throws.
