Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State volleyball team suffered a tough 3-2 loss to the University of Mount Olive in Capel Arena Tuesday (Oct. 22
nd) night. The Broncos (8-6 overall) battled through all five sets losing the first 25-19 but winning the second 25-21. Mount Olive (4-11 overall) captured the third set 25-18 and lost the fourth 26-24.
The Trojans held an early 5-1 lead in the fifth set before a Bronco timeout. Fayetteville State trailed by two (6-4) after a pair of UMO attack errors and a kill by
Chynna Hunt coming out of the break. A 4-1 Mount Olive run increased its lead to 10-5 and an additional 3-0 run place the Trojans in the drivers set with a 13-7 lead. An FSU service error and a kill by Star Sergent (who finished with 15 kills) would end the match in favor of Mount Olive.
Hunt (Summerville, SC) led the effort for the Broncos with 14 kills from 32 attacks. CIAA Rookie of the Week
Casandra Watson (Grifton, NC) also had 32 attacks, but she finished with 12 kills.
Diamond Holmes (Raeford, NC) had the most attacks with 35 and she accounted for ten kills. Nakia McKinnie (Niceville, FL) set up 21 assists.
Mount Olive took advantage of 14 service aces with Madison Goodson knocking down eight of them.
Fayetteville State will host Winston-Salem State on Thursday, October 24
th at 6 pm.
