The Institute For Sport & Social Justice ("The Institute") would like to recognize the outstanding academic achievements and community service outreach of your student-athletes. "PlayMaker of the Month" will provide your student-athlete(s) and your institution national recognition on "The Institute" website, social media channels, and at "The Institute" annual awards gala.
Black is a senior, cheer captain at Fayetteville State University (FSU). She is being recognized for her academic excellence, exceptional leadership skills, and her community service commitments.
Black was recently recognized in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, Arthur Ashe edition as a 2019 Arthur Ashe Individual Sports Scholar Award Winner. Winners of this award have to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5, be active on their campuses and communities, and are at least a sophomore academically. Black has the highest GPA on the cheer squad and was inducted to the third class of the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, Kappa Chapter.
Black has also been honored as a Global Scholar, received the James Scurry Scholarship (former Dean of Students), and a member of Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society).
As a campus and community leader,
Amari Black was voted the 2019-20 FSU president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She was a student leader at the CIAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council Conference, a student leader at the Apple Training Institute, a member of the Student Activities Council and Student Government Association, and an Ambassador for FSU's Operation Smooth Move.
In addition, Black has been a speaker on several FSU panels, coordinated community activities for FSU cheer, volunteered for youth cheer camps and at the 2019 Lee County Regional Fair, and a colon cancer caregiver.
Amari is pursuing a degree in English Language and Literature with a minor in Spanish.
