Green Breaks All-Time Rushing Record in Broncos 55-12 DEVFC Victory

Rocky Mount, NC – Fayetteville State put an exclamation point on its 55-12 victory over Elizabeth City State in the 22nd Down East Viking Football Classic in Rocky Mount, NC to improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in CIAA play.
 
Senior Stevie Green (Washington, NC) surpassed Clifton Davis's 3,709 career rushing record with a 154-yard performance against the Viking. Green's three touchdowns and a 41-yard scamper garnered him the DEVFC Offensive Player of the Game Award. Stevie Green currently has a 3,722-yard rushing mark in the Broncos history books.
 
In addition to the Broncos securing the DEVFC trophy, Linebacker Chrishon Springs was named the Defensive Player of the Game with a total of 10 tackles with 3.5 stops for a total loss of 22 yards and one and a half sacks for 9 yards loss.
 
Elizabeth City continues its losing streak with an 0-4 record. Sophomore quarterback Kedrick Patterson had a career night with 265 yards passing from 12 completed passes and two touchdowns.
 
The Broncos finished with a 423-yard offensive performance after gaining 292 yards on the ground and 131 in the air.
 
Fayetteville State took its opening drive 57 yards in five plays to score the first points of the game. Before the end of the first quarter, Donshel Jetton, who finished with 72 rushing yards, scored his first of two touchdowns for a Bronco 14-0 lead.
 
Richard Latimer completed 7-of-10 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He hit tight ends Ke'Monta Stockdale with a 16-yard scoring pass and Christopher Brooks for 60 yards to reach a 28-0 lead with a little over seven minutes left in the first half.
 
The Vikings scored two touchdowns prior to the halftime festivities but trailed 35-12 at intermission.
 
The televised game went scoreless in the third quarter until the run assault by the Broncos picked back up in the fourth.
 
Jetton walked in from the three-yard line to start the final period and Green had his longest run of the game scoring from 41 yards out.
 
Elijah Henry scored the 55th point with a one-yard rush.
 
The defensive pressure by the Broncos limited the Vikings. FSU sacked ECSU 5 times for a loss of 42 yards. Elizabeth City State rushed for a net 29 yards after being tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 137 yards.
 
Keyshawn James finished with a total of 7 tackles for which two of them were for a loss of 21 yards. He also had a sack and a half for 19 yards. Kenneth Merritt had six tackles and an interception.
 
Fayetteville State will host Chowan for its annual homecoming game on Saturday, October 5th.
