Fayetteville, N.C. –
Brittany Drumgoole and
Shantel Bennett teamed up to lead Fayetteville State (6-4 overall) to a 53-36 victory over Augusta University (1-8 overall) in Capel Arena. The first win of 2019 calendar year extends the Broncos streak to three games.
Drumgoole poured in 14 points with three made three-pointers while Bennett chipped in 13 with 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.
Fayetteville State forced 21 turnovers for the game which converted into 19 points.
After a close first quarter, where the Broncos led 14-10, FSU capitalized on seven turnovers to limit Augusta to two points for the second period. During this span, Fayetteville State extended its lead with an 11-2 run for the 25-12 halftime lead.
After intermission, the Broncos shut down Augusta with a 14-4 third quarter.
Kailyn Jackson led the Jaguars with 9 points.
Fayetteville State will host Salem on Saturday, January 5
th at 2:00 pm as the third event of the Broncos "Community Month". Admission to all patrons is FREE. The men's basketball team will open the day with a 12:00 noon tip against Elizabeth City State in a non-conference matchup.
