Petersburg, VA - Fayetteville State's Isaiah Shaw scored a nine-over par, 153, to win the Virginia State Trojan Spring Classic Low Medalist Award over a field of 25 golfers. Fayetteville State finished the two-day tournament ranked third with a +118 score behind champion Virginia Union (+62) and Chowan (+69).
Shaw opened the first round of play with a 3-over par 75-day. He had an even score (36) on the front nine of the 3,144-yard course but was three strokes over on the 3,461-yard back nine. Shaw had the same results on the second day's opening half. The day went long after a six-over back nine and a 78-final day. He had a total of six birdies for the tournament.
Isaiah Shaw stood atop of the leaderboard both days. Virginia Union's Paul Meints finished second with a +10 finish. Chowan's Tyler Pittman was third after finishing 14-over. The two were tied for second after the first round with a +6 score.
Joshua Smith (Fayetteville, NC) finished his season on the hardwood basketball court and picked up a smaller ball in the fairway of the golf course. Smith finished second for the Broncos and 13th overall. He was 27-over (171) with 87 strokes in the first round and 84 on the final day.
Adam Capps was 16th with a 174-tournament (86-88). Corey Bissen was 21st (99+97, 196) and James Rikard was 24th (126+128, 254).
Fayetteville State will compete in the Johnson C. Smith University Spring Invitational on Wednesday, March 21.
