Broncos Indoor Track & Field is Off and Running at JDL Early Bird Duals Meet

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Fayetteville State Women's Indoor Track & Field program had a solid performance in its second meet of the 2018-19 season.

Track & Field has had an on-again-off-again existence within Bronco athletics. Records reveal that the first women's team was in 1987 under the direction of Tim Clifton. With a non-consecutive sponsorship of five seasons, the last time Fayetteville State participated in a CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship was in 2000 under Head Coach Mark Adams.

The 2018-19 women's indoor season, with back-to-back CIAA Women's Cross-Country Coach of the Year Inez Turner, is a first in institution history with scholarship student-athletes.

The Broncos finished today's meet with 19 student-athletes competing and several Top 10 finishes.

Briana Jordan (Gastonia, NC) had two stellar performances in the 60 and 200-meter dash. She finished second in the 200 meters in 25.80 seconds and was fourth overall in the 60-meters in a time of 7.77 seconds. Shanae Ingram (St. Ann, JA) was sixth overall in the 800 meters when she won the second section in a time of 2:29.98. The 4x400 A-team of Yahaira Leak (Fayetteville, NC), Carisha Leonard (Rocky Mount, NC), Jalen Jenkins (New Bern, NC), and Shania Ingram (St. Ann, Jamaica) finished tenth in 4:07.99.

Shania Ingram led the field events with a ninth-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 4'11" (1.50m). She was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17'2.25" (5.24m).

Amberine Brown (Moyock, NC) and Yahaira Leak was just shy of the Top-10 rankings with an 11th and 12th place finish in the 60-meters. Brown finished in a time of 8.04 seconds while Leak was clocked at 8.06. Yahaira Leak was 11th in the 200 meters (25.59 seconds).
