Fayetteville, N.C. – The Broncos of Fayetteville State University will advance to next round of the CIAA Volleyball Championship Tournament in Salem, Va. after defeating Chowan University 3-0 in Capel Arena in the Quarterfinals by sets of 25-12, 25-11, and 25-11.

Senior Teeya McLean led all spikers with 12 kills and 6 blocks. Freshman Diamond Holmes put down nine kills and Jessica Williams finished with seven. Nakia McKinnie had a match-high 30 assists.

"We always develop a game plan for each match", said Head Coach Reeshemah Johnson. "The girls executed the game plan very well."

Fayetteville State raced to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and extended it to 19-8. The Broncos had 12 kills with four errors with the 25-12 set victory over the Hawks. Chowan had seven kills and 12 errors.

The Bronco momentum carried over to the second set with a 23-8 lead and a 25-11 set takeover. The Hawks seemed dismayed in the third set with a second 10 error set working against five kills.

Milica Vejnovic led Chowan with five kills and Micayla Pope assisted the effort with 13 assists and seven digs.

Fayetteville State will take on the Trojans of Virginia State University Friday evening at 5:00 pm at the Salem Civic Center. The Trojans swept Johnson C. Smith in three sets to advance.
