Fayetteville, N.C. – Fayetteville State had a solid team effort in its 84-73 win over Morris College tonight in Capel Arena. The Broncos dished out 14 assists in Capel Arena's final home game of the 2018 calendar year.
Denzell Hosch led the game with 18 points after nailing 12-of-17 free throws and three field goals. He also dished out four assists and had two steals. FSU had three players to finish in double-digits. In addition to Hosch's game high,
Nakia Rivers followed with 17 points.
Mark Burton hit three three-pointers in the first half and finished the game with 16 points and three assists.
Fayetteville State (1-5 overall) held a close battle with the Hornets of Morris College (2-4 overall) throughout the game. After leading 40-38 at halftime, the Broncos encountered four tied scores and three lead changes before creating an 18-point 83-65 advantage (the largest lead of the game) with 2:15 remaining.
"I am just happy to get that monkey off our back and get that first win," said Head Coach
Ken Spencer. "Our guys really played hard and a lot smarter tonight. We had more assists that turnovers; which is always big. We won the rebounding battle."
"We have some time to work on some things and get ready for CIAA play."
FSU will travel to Chowan on Thursday, December 13
th and continue on a three-game road-trip in five days with a stop at Virginia State (Saturday, December 15
th) and Elizabeth City State (Monday, December 17
th).
