FSU Women’s Basketball Take Rival UNC Pembroke 54-41

Fayetteville, N.C. – The Fayetteville State women's basketball team took down rival UNC Pembroke 54-41 in Capel Arena before the campus break for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Aminata Johnson led the game with 14 points while the Broncos shared the ball on offense with 15 assists.
 
"We came out and did what we wanted to do as far as the game plan," said Head Coach Serena King-Coleman. "We fed the ball in the post and we played solid defense."

Fayetteville State (3-2 overall) held UNC Pembroke (1-3 overall) to 28.6% shooting from the floor with 16 of 56 field goals made. The Broncos also held an edge on the boards with three more rebounds (38-35) than the Braves.
 
Although Aminata Johnson leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game, Alyssa Thompson led the game with nine boards. Johnson has a season-high 21 points against Kutztown while tonight was her second highest scoring game with 14.
 
"She [Aminata] did a great job," said Coach King-Coleman. "We told her that we were coming to her and she did her job. She has been consistent this year. She has been our post presence and has been able to score.  Each game she is getting better."
 
"I think my performance tonight was good," said the sophomore forward who transferred from Howard University. "The team did what we planned on doing, but with the free throws, we need to do better."
 
Fayetteville State was 10-of-24 from the line for 41.7%. FSU had a lull in the third quarter after leading at halftime 31-16. UNCP outscored the Broncos 17-12 in the third period but FSU closed out the game with a better 11-8 fourth period.
 
Melanie Horne led the Braves with 13 points and seven rebounds.
 
Fayetteville State will travel to Barton College on Wednesday, November 28th for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
