SIX BRONCOS RECEIVE 2015 ALL-CIAA FOOTBALL TEAM HONORS

Charlotte, NC -- Fayetteville State University had six student-athletes to receive 2015 All-CIAA Football Team honors this season. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with its Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association announced the 2015 All-CIAA First, Second and Honorable Mention teams on Thursday, November 12th.

The three Broncos selected to the All-CIAA First Team are senior wide receiver Tavon Gatlin (Virginia Beach, VA), junior defensive back Eric Henderson II (Charlotte, NC), and sophomore return specialist Maleek Gorham (Greenville, NC).

Senior wide receiver Chris Hubert (Apex, NC), junior offensive lineman William Jenkins (Windsor, NC) and sophomore linebacker Seth Johnson (Charlotte, NC) were all tabbed on the All-CIAA Second Team.

Senior quarterback Derek Bryant (Carrboro, NC), senior center Brian Jones (Miami, FL), junior defensive back Travis Scales (Southern Pines, NC), and junior offensive lineman Ryan Belton (Newport News, VA) all received Honorable Mention credits.

Gatlin played in all 10 games this season. He recorded 46 receptions for 727 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ranked third in the CIAA for receiving TDs and fourth in receiving yards per games (72.4).

Henderson finished third in tackles for Broncos with 54 (37 solo). He played in all 10 games and produced three and half tackles for a loss, an interception, a fumble recovery, and two pass deflections.

Gorham led Fayetteville State in kick return yardage. He returned 11 kicks for 305 yards, including a 100 yard return for a touchdown.

Hubert earns second team honors despite leading the CIAA in receiving touchdowns with 13. He played in all 10 games and produced team and single season career-highs of 71 catches, 862 yards receiving, and 13 TDs. Hubert led FSU in scoring (86 points) and all-purpose yardage (1169).

Bryant also had a highly productive statistical season. He finished the season leading the CIAA in passing touchdowns (25), passing yards per game (261), and overall passing yards (2353) in nine games played.

Drew Powell (Livingstone), Austin Jacques (Johnson C. Smith) and Nick Hahula (Chowan) highlight the teams as players of the year.

Livingstone's Drew Powell, a senior quarterback from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was named the Offensive Player of the Year. He finished the 2015 season with 1,786 overall passing yards with 14 touchdowns. With a completion percentage of 58.9%, Drew completed 149 of 253 passes. On the ground, Powell rushed 139 times for 561 yards and eight touchdowns.

Johnson C. Smith's Austin Jacques, a senior linebacker from Springdale, Maryland, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Jacques led the conference with 131 total tackles (78 solo and 53 assisted) with four and a half sacks for a loss of 23.5 yards. He also finished with two interceptions and one pass breakup. Austin Jacques has led the NCAA rankings in solo tackles.

Chowan's Nick Hahula, a senior kicker from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was named the Special Teams Player of the Year. This season, Nick has scored a total of 52 points from his foot. He converted 6-of-11 field goals and 25-of-27 extra point attempts. Hahula gave assistance to the Hawks defense with 51 punts for 1,843 yards.

The Players of the Year and the First Team All-CIAA honorees will receive their awards during a pre-game ceremony prior to the start of the 2015 CIAA Football Championship game. The Championship game will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. Kickoff is 2:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on the ASPiRE Network.
