Final Stats
FORT LEE, VA - Virginia State held off rival Fayetteville State to win the 2010 CIAA Golf Championship at Cardinal Golf Course on Friday.
FSU, the 2009 CIAA Champions, trailed by three strokes entering play. The Broncos finished the day with a combined score of 622, 46 over par, nine shots behind VSU, who had a combined score of 613, 37 over par.
Senior Jeremy Ringled (Hope Mills, NC) shot a 73 on Friday and, added to his 78 on Thursday, helped him finish tied for fifth place with St. Augustine's Derek Johnson with a 7-over-par, 151. Freshman Jedidiah Frazier (Havelock, NC) was two shots behind Ringled with a 9-over-par, 153.
Freshman Matt Crescenzo (Celtonham, PA) shot a 13-over-par, 157 which tied him for 11th place while sophomore William McClure (Fayetteville, NC) had a 17-over-par, 161 good for 17th place. Hickory, NC native Bryan Conner's 23-over-par, 167 gave him a tied for 22nd place finish.
FSU and VSU were the only two schools to have all five golfers finish in the top 22.
Chowan's Corey Garvey won the individual title with a 3-over-par, 147.
The Broncos will compete in the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship in Port St. Lucie, FL beginning May 7.
