Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) recognized Elorine Hill and Chekimbrell Jefferson as the Coach and Player of the week, respectively for the week ending October 14, 2008.
Coach Hill, in her 17th season as the Lady Broncos head coach, currently has her squad on a four-match winning streak. Last week, FSU defeated St. Augustine's College, Benedict College, and Livingstone College (twice). The Lady Broncos are 16-15 in the overall standings with a 10-1 record in the CIAA and a flawless 6-0 against Western Division opponents.
Jefferson, a junior middle blocker, earned Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. The Laurel Hill, NC native is currently the conference leader in kills (3.42 per set) and hitting percentage (.341). In just 11 sets, Jefferson produced 39 kills, nine digs, and 11 blocks (4 solo, 7 assists). Her top performance was against Livingstone. Jefferson's 16 kills, five digs, and five blocks (1 solo, 4 assists) rallied the Lady Broncos to a 3-2 victory against divisional foe Livingstone.
Coach Hill and Jefferson are the reigning CIAA Coach and Player of the Year, respectively. The ladies earned the honors last season during Fayetteville State's CIAA Championship run. FSU hopes to continue having success in their quest to repeat as champions. The Lady Broncos return to action Wednesday, October 15th when they host Shaw University in Seabrook Recreation Center. The match is set begin at 6:00 pm.
