FSU GOLFERS FIRST IN CIAA WESTERN DIVISION TOURNAMENT

March 19, 2007

When it comes to the CIAA Western Division Tournament, winning is a tradition for the Fayetteville State University Golf Team.

To support that statement; the Broncos' golfers out distanced their closest opponent by 55 strokes to capture their ninth Western Division Title. FSU's golfers shot a first-round 281 en route to the championship and finished the two-day affair with an aggregate team total of 571 five under par. Second place went to Virginia State University (624), followed by Saint Augustine' College (659). The 571 established a new record for the Western Division Tournament and gave the Broncos their ninth division title in 10 tries. The win was FSU fifth consecutive championship.

In individual play, FSU's Joel Lynn carded a 69, three-under par both days of the tournament and captured honors as the top individual medalist, finishing the event with 69-69-138 six under par. Lynn teammate Ian Milne would finish the two-day event with 69-73-142 to take second place and runner-up medalist honors. Five Broncos finished in the tournament top 10 golfers.
