Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced the selections for the 2007 CIAA All-Conference, All-Rookie Teams and the CIAA Players of the Year Friday, November 2nd.
Fayetteville State University's Chekimbrell Jefferson, a 6-2, middle blocker/hitter and psychology major from Laurel Hill, North Carolina earned the 2007 CIAA Player of the Year. Jefferson was instrumental in helping the Lady Broncos post a 21-11 regular season record and going perfect in the CIAA and Western Division. She is currently ranked among the conference's leaders in four categories and the conference leader in kills per game (4.23) and hitting percentage (.388).
Jefferson was also selected the 2007 CIAA All-Conference 1st Team, along with teammates Heather Chance, Shatia Gidrey, Achari Mainor, Samantha Meeks, and Sha'Quana Veney. Mainor and Meeks, both freshmen, were also chosen for the 2007 CIAA All-Rookie Team. Senior Cassandra Peterson was the seventh Lady Bronco chosen by the conference; earning an All-Conference 2nd Team selection.
The CIAA All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams are selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches' Association and the 2007 teams will be honored at the Annual Volleyball Luncheon at Grimes Hall on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC Wednesday, November 7 at 11:00 am.
