Dr. Naadiya C. Hopkins has been named the Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Designee (ADID) at Fayetteville State University (FSU). In this role Dr. Hopkins will serve as the conduit for information related to national-, local- and campus-level issues of diversity and inclusion and supports diverse and inclusive practices related to athletics. Dr. Hopkins will participate in various training and development opportunities to increase and enhance competencies associated with leading and facilitating inclusion initiatives, as well as she will have an integral part in policy changes and the hiring process within athletics.
Dr. Hopkins currently serves as the Director of Student Activities and Engagement in the Division of Student Affairs. The ADID position will compliment this role towards increasing student engagement and strengthening the partnership between Student Affairs and the Department of Athletics. Since 2019, Dr. Naadiya Hopkins has worked diligently to create an inclusive environment for all student-athletes at Fayetteville State University. She has implemented various leadership development opportunities for student-athletes and increased the student-athlete presence by including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as one of the larger student-governed organizations.
She has been in the field of Higher Education for over 7 years, working in various areas of Student Affairs to include Residence Life, Career Services, Greek Affairs, Parent and Family Programs, and has experience on the K-12 level as a STEM educator.
Dr. Hopkins received a dual Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology & Biology-Education from Fayetteville State University and her Masters in Higher Education & Student Personnel from Kent State University with a certificate in Career Advising. Ms. Hopkins also completed her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education. Her dissertation was titled “Athletics Administrators’ and Coaches’ Perspectives and Experiences Related to Student-Athletes’ Engagement in Social Activism”.
Dr. Hopkins is committed to creating an inclusive and well-balanced environment for all student-athletes, athletics administrators and staff to thrive on the national-, local-, and campus-level. Additionally, Dr. Hopkins is committed to cultivating and enhancing the student experience to ensure that all student-athletes are able to engage in a variety of social, cultural, and intellectual experiences that will transform their intrapersonal and interpersonal abilities.
