Senior libero Tione Freeman has established herself as one of Fayetteville State's most dependable defensive specialists, combining relentless effort on the court with exceptional achievement in the classroom. A native of Bryant, Arkansas, Freeman enters her senior season as a veteran leader for the Broncos and a model student-athlete.
Freeman arrived at Fayetteville State following a decorated career at Bryant High School, where she earned AVCA All-American, All-State, All-Conference, and All-State Tournament Team honors. In 2023, she led Arkansas' 6A Central Division in digs and finished ranked eighth in the state, solidifying her reputation as one of the region's top defensive players.
Since joining the Broncos, Freeman has continued to excel both athletically and academically. During her freshman season, she appeared in 16 matches and 50 sets, recording 111 digs while posting a season-high 21 digs against Livingstone College on October 21, 2024. Her dedication in the classroom earned her the 2025 Bronco Sports Award for Highest Individual GPA after maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.
One of the defining moments of Freeman's athletic journey came early in her collegiate career when she unknowingly played through a broken thumb suffered during her first game at Fayetteville State. After learning the severity of the injury two weeks later, she spent a month in a cast before returning to competition immediately after it was removed. The experience showcased the toughness, determination, and resilience that have become hallmarks of her game.
Freeman's most memorable experience as a student-athlete came in 2025 when she helped Fayetteville State capture the CIAA Volleyball Championship on the same day she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The occasion represented a milestone in both her athletic and personal life, creating a memory she will cherish forever.
Before taking the court, Freeman remains grounded through prayer and mental focus. Her serving routine includes bouncing the ball twice with one hand before her traditional three-bounce sequence. She is motivated by the knowledge that younger athletes are watching and learning from her example, inspiring her to compete with excellence and integrity every day.
Off the court, Freeman is a talented nail technician with six years of experience and is passionate about serving others. A Fall 2025 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she regularly participates in service projects benefiting both youth and senior citizens, while also providing supplies and support to members of the homeless community.
Freeman chose Fayetteville State because of the welcoming atmosphere and positive energy she experienced during her official visit. Being more than 14 hours away from home, she quickly discovered a second family within the Bronco community. She credits the coaches, staff, teammates, and mentors who have supported her growth and helped shape her into the person she is today.
Academically, Freeman is pursuing a degree in Healthcare Administration and plans to earn an MBA in Healthcare Management before attending nursing school. Her long-term goal is to build a career dedicated to improving healthcare and serving others.
