Desmond Freeman joined the Fayetteville State University men’s basketball coaching staff ahead of the 2025–26 season, playing an integral role in the Broncos’ success, including their run during the 2026 CIAA Men’s Basketball Championship season. A rising coach with a strong foundation in leadership, player development, and academic excellence, Freeman has quickly emerged as a valuable asset in the program's continued growth.
A former collegiate standout, Freeman competed at Bluefield State College and Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he combined high-level performance with academic distinction. He served as team captain at both institutions, demonstrating leadership and accountability on and off the court. Across his career, Freeman earned multiple Academic All-American honors and was recognized as a CSC All-District selection at Bloomsburg. He also led his team in free throw percentage and three-point field goals, showcasing his efficiency and scoring ability.
Freeman earned his Master of Business Administration from Bloomsburg University in 2024, graduating with an outstanding 3.95 GPA. He completed his undergraduate degree at Bluefield State College in 2022, earning a Bachelor of Business in Sports Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship while achieving the highest GPA in the School of Business.
His academic and leadership accolades include recognition as a White House Initiative for HBCUs Scholar, 2022 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Student Leader of the Year, and a Service Award recipient—honors that reflect his commitment to excellence in all areas.
Before joining Fayetteville State, Freeman gained valuable coaching experience as an assistant coach at Southeast Guilford High School during the 2024–25 season and as a head coach with Basketpoint USA AAU in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has also served as a personal trainer and skill development coach since 2020, working with athletes to refine fundamentals and elevate performance.
Freeman’s professional background extends beyond basketball. He has interned with the Bluefield State Athletic Department, contributing to event operations, data management, and scheduling, while also serving on hiring committees and representing student-athletes in conference meetings. Additionally, he brings experience in financial services and organizational leadership through his work as a financial representative and as a board member and treasurer for a STEM-focused academy.
Known for his attention to detail, strong work ethic, and passion for mentoring student-athletes, Freeman is committed to developing well-rounded individuals who excel both on the court and in the classroom.
