DeShawn McCain

DeShawn McCain serves as a men's basketball assistant coach.

McCain will assist in the duties and responsibilities of recruiting, player development, scouting, practicing planning, defensive coordinator, and game management.

"McCain is a bright, young, and enthusiastic coach; destined to be a star in this business," said head men's basketball coach Ken Spencer. "His connections in recruiting and his ability to relate to the student-athletes of this generation will be an asset to the program."

McCain began his coaching career as the head junior varsity boys' coach and assistant varsity coach at Belpre High School in Belpre, Ohio. In his first year of coaching, Belpre High won the 2011 TVC championship.

McCain is a native of Creedmoor, NC. He played basketball at South Granville High School. He was a three-year varsity starter, team captain and defensive player of the year. McCain went on to play collegiate basketball at Wilkes Community College for two years and lead the team in rebounding. He later played two seasons at Ohio Valley University 2007-2009.

McCain graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management in 2009. Professionally, McCain played for the Salem Mustangs, a semi-pro basketball team affiliated with the Eastern Basketball Alliance (EBA) and the Appalachian Rapids of the American Basketball Association (ABA).

McCain obtained a master's degree in Education from Ohio Valley. During his graduate studies, McCain served as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball team. During his tenure, the team tied the OVU record for wins in a single season.

McCain is the proud father of two sons: Malachi (5) and Elijah (2).
