Corey Thompson is beginning his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Fayetteville State men's basketball program.
Thompson joined the Broncos coaching staff in 2011-12 after a successful tenure at UNC Pembroke. He was a member of the Braves' coaching staff for five years from 2006-11. Thompson helped lead his big men to the seventh-best rebounding margin (+8.0) in the nation during the 2010-11 campaign, as well as the top spot in the Peach Belt Conference in the same category. UNC Pembroke also finished the season 36th in the nation in both field-goal percentage defense (40.9) and blocked shots per game (4.2). The 2010-11 squad finished with the highest win total by a UNCP team since the school moved to the NCAA Division II ranks prior to the 1992-93 season as well as advancing to their first PBC Tournament Championship game and the school's first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament appearance.
He has also served as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Slippery Rock University (2002-04) in Slippery Rock, PA, and as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Winston-Salem State (2004-05).
A Lumberton, NC native, Thompson starred for Winston-Salem State from 1998-02 and helped lead the school to a 97-25 overall record, four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 appearances and back-to-back CIAA conference titles.
