Dr. Tyrone Jones is a seasoned football coach with over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience. His career spans several institutions, including Fayetteville State University (FSU), Methodist University, Chowan University, and Eastern New Mexico University. Known for his leadership, player development, and strategic acumen, Dr. Jones has consistently built high-performing teams and mentored standout athletes.

At Fayetteville State University, where he currently serves as the Running Backs and Special Teams Coordinator, Dr. Jones has played a pivotal role in the Broncos' success. Under his guidance, FSU has captured CIAA South Division titles in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. His special teams units have consistently ranked among the best in the nation, including a #1 ranking in the CIAA and national statistical leadership in kickoff returns in 2023.

Dr. Jones has coached numerous award-winning athletes, including DII All-American Barry Elliot, who led the nation in kickoff return average in 2023, and Ty Sharpe, the 2021 national leader in punt return average. He also mentored Chris Hubert, who became FSU’s all-time leader in receiving stats and went on to play for the Arizona Cardinals.

Before joining FSU, Dr. Jones spent a decade at Methodist University, where he served as Assistant Head Coach and Academic Coordinator. He helped lead the team to USA South Conference Championships in 2005 and 2013. His 2013 offense ranked among the top in NCAA Division III in multiple categories, including total offense, red zone efficiency, and passing yards.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Jones held coaching roles at Chowan University and Eastern New Mexico University. At Chowan, he served as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator, producing multiple All-Conference players. At Eastern New Mexico, he contributed to back-to-back Lone Star Conference South Division titles and helped build one of the top-ranked defenses in the country.

Dr. Jones holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Administration from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Chowan University.

He is a graduate of the NFL/NCAA Coaches Academy and an active member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the North Carolina High School Coaches Association (NCHSCA).

Dr. Jones is married to the former Lorna K. Hanley. His dedication to coaching, education, and student-athlete development continues to make a lasting impact on every program he touches.
