Fayetteville State University proudly welcomes Charles Huff to the Broncos Football coaching staff as Defensive Backs Coach. With over three decades of coaching experience across NCAA Division I and II programs—as well as the NFL—Coach Huff brings a legacy of defensive excellence, player development, and championship-caliber leadership to the Broncos.
Throughout his career, Huff has held key roles at institutions such as Clark Atlanta, Fort Valley State, Alabama A&M, Hampton, Albany State, and Northern Arizona. He has coached nearly every defensive position and served as a Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, and Recruiting Coordinator. His coaching journey also includes NFL experience with the Miami Dolphins, and mini-camp roles with the Carolina Panthers and San Diego Chargers.
Coach Huff has mentored numerous standout athletes who went on to successful NFL careers, including:
- Asante Samuel – 4× Pro Bowl cornerback (UCF)
- Travis Fisher – Former NFL cornerback and current coach (UCF)
- Atari Bigby – NFL safety (UCF)
- Daryl Talley – All-American linebacker and Defensive Player of the Year (Div I)
- Steve Parsley – All-American tailback (SAC – Div I)
- Elton Patterson, Reshard Jentry, and Anthony Hutch – All-American defensive ends
- Gooch (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Porter (Miami Dolphins), Shorter (San Diego Chargers), and Swift (Carolina Panthers) – All four starters from Huff’s 1995 Austin Peay secondary who reached the NFL
Known for his ability to identify and develop elite talent, Coach Huff has led defensive units that ranked #1 nationally in categories such as total defense, pass defense, blocked kicks, and kickoff return average. His coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, academic excellence, and a relentless pursuit of success on and off the field.
Coach Huff is a graduate of Presbyterian College, where he was a standout cornerback and return specialist, earning All-American and All-Conference honors.
His addition to the Broncos staff signals a bold step forward for Fayetteville State Football as the program continues its pursuit of CIAA dominance and national recognition.
