Cheyenne Payne brings speed and energy to the Fayetteville State Broncos softball team as an outfielder. Wearing jersey number 5, the Hollywood, Florida native stands at 5’0” and plays with a fearless approach that makes her a spark in the lineup and on the bases. A right-handed hitter and thrower, Payne uses her quickness and instincts to cover ground in the outfield and create scoring opportunities.
In her sophomore season (2025), Payne appeared in 14 games, starting 12, and posted an impressive .297 batting average with 11 hits, including a double and a home run. She drove in 5 runs, scored 11 times, and showcased her speed with 8 stolen bases, making her one of the Broncos’ most dynamic offensive threats. Her ability to get on base was equally strong, finishing the season with a .395 on-base percentage.
Off the field, Payne is pursuing a degree in Nursing, inspired by her desire to help those who cannot help themselves. Her ultimate goal is to become a travel nurse, combining her passion for healthcare with her love for exploring the world. She credits her mother as her greatest inspiration, saying, “She shows me time and time again that I can do it on my own.”
One unique fact about Cheyenne? She loves reading books and prefers not to get her nails done—a fun detail that reflects her individuality. Her favorite experience at FSU so far has been meeting her teammates and building strong bonds. On game days, Payne locks in by listening to hype music and mentally mapping out her game plan.
