Junior pitcher Kevana Deberry has steadily developed into one of the most purposeful and resilient competitors on the Fayetteville State University softball team. A Fayetteville native and graduate of E.E. Smith High School, Deberry stands 5’5” and bats and throws right-handed, bringing grit, discipline, and a strong mental presence to the mound. Wearing jersey No. 9, she enters her third collegiate season as a veteran leader in the circle.
Across her career, Deberry has compiled 166.2 innings pitched, recording 12 wins, 14 complete games, and a career ERA of 5.71. In 2024, she delivered one of her most productive seasons, logging 108.1 innings, striking out 99 batters, and earning seven wins with nine complete games and a shutout. She followed with another strong year in 2025, adding 58.1 innings, 32 strikeouts, and five more complete games. Opposing hitters have consistently struggled against her movement and toughness, as her career total of 131 strikeouts demonstrates her ability to compete deep into games and challenge hitters with confidence.
While her primary impact comes in the circle, Deberry has also contributed at the plate, appearing in 39 games with 22 starts. She has recorded three career hits and an RBI, and her willingness to compete on both sides of the ball reflects her team-first mentality. Defensively, she has posted a .921 career fielding percentage, recording 35 total chances with 28 assists—further showcasing her reliability and awareness.
Academically, Deberry majors in Psychology—a field she chose intentionally and thoughtfully. She is deeply interested in understanding how individuals heal after trauma and what it means for people to rebuild themselves from brokenness. Her long-term goals include earning her master’s degree and Ph.D., serving in the U.S. Navy, and ultimately becoming a licensed therapist dedicated to helping others emotionally and spiritually recover.
Her faith is the foundation of her purpose. Kevana cites God as her greatest inspiration, guiding her decisions, directing her growth, and giving meaning to her challenges. Her unique intentionality sets her apart—she describes herself as disciplined, self-aware, and fully committed to aligning her education, service, and future career with her mission to help others heal.
On gameday, Deberry centers herself through music and prayer, creating a quiet, focused mindset before stepping onto the field. Though she doesn’t name a single standout moment at FSU, every experience has shaped her into a strong, mature competitor and scholar.
With her unwavering sense of purpose, competitive spirit, and dedication to serving others, Kevana Deberry continues to embody the heart and determination of the Broncos softball program—on the mound, in the classroom, and beyond.
