Fayetteville State Star Rolls Into NCAA Regionals as One of the CIAA’s All-Time Greats

Paige Rockwell - A Legacy in Motion
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — For four seasons, Fayetteville State University's Paige Rockwell has been the definition of excellence in CIAA women's bowling. Now, as she leads the Lady Broncos into the NCAA Regionals, she arrives not only as the most decorated bowler in the conference but as the anchor of a dynasty — a player whose career numbers and championship pedigree place her among the greatest to ever compete in CIAA lanes.

Rockwell's story has been marked by consistency, poise, and an unmatched ability to elevate her performance when the competition intensifies. Across 128 conference traditional games, Rockwell compiled 23,768 pins with a career CIAA average of 185.69, all against league opponents. Her ability to sustain excellence across four seasons has made her the backbone of one of the conference's most storied programs.

A Four-Year Force at the Top of CIAA Bowling

From the moment she arrived in 2022–23, Rockwell showed she was different. Her freshman debut included a stunning 211 average at the CIAA RoundUp, one of the highest freshman event averages in recorded conference play for FSU. She finished her inaugural season with a 185.93 CIAA average, the second-highest freshman mark in the conference that year.

Her sophomore campaign reinforced her rising dominance. Rockwell delivered a steady 181.19 average over 31 conference games, earning her first CIAA Player of the Year award while helping the Broncos reclaim another league title.

But the true leap came in her upperclassman seasons.

As a junior, Rockwell registered a 201 average in the CIAA RoundUp — her second career 200+ conference event — and finished the season with a strong 183.64 average across 33 CIAA games. That performance helped drive Fayetteville State to another CIAA Championship and positioned her as the league's most dependable closer in Baker and traditional play.

Her senior season stands alone as one of the best in CIAA history.

Rockwell closed her conference career with a remarkable 191.4 CIAA average over 35 games — the highest among all bowlers in 2025–26. She was nearly untouchable down the stretch, rolling back‑to‑back traditional‑event averages of 193.12 and 209.66, her best two-event run in conference competition.

Her dominance was a driving force behind FSU's undefeated 48–0 CIAA divisional record and yet another league championship in 2026.

The Most Decorated Bowler of Her Era

Awards follow greatness, and Rockwell earned them at a historic pace.

She is the only bowler in CIAA history to be named CIAA Tournament MVP four straight seasons (2022–23 through 2025–26), cementing her status as the league's most dominant postseason competitor. She also collected:
  • 2× CIAA Player of the Year (2023–24, 2025–26)
  • 4× CIAA All‑Tournament Team
  • 4× All‑CIAA selection
  • Multiple 200+ CIAA event performances, including 211, 201, and 209.66 averages
Her winning résumé reflects not only individual excellence but unmatched consistency at the highest levels of conference play.

"Paige Rockwell has been the heartbeat of our program from the moment she walked through the door", said Head Coach Bobby Henderson. "What she accomplished over four years isn't just impressive — it's historic. Her competitive fire, her ability to execute under pressure, and her consistency against every conference opponent set the standard for what it means to be a Lady Bronco. Paige didn't just win matches; she elevated everyone around her. To coach an athlete who delivers at her level — academically, athletically, and as a teammate — is rare. She's left a legacy here that will be talked about for a very long time."

Built for Big Moments

Ask anyone inside the program, and they'll tell you: when the stakes rise, Paige rises higher.

Throughout her four years, Rockwell repeatedly delivered the shot that shifted momentum, saved a match, or slammed the door in the tenth frame. Her ability to read lanes, adjust quickly, and handle pressure made her the natural anchor in both traditional and Baker competition.

Her leadership also extended beyond scoring. Younger teammates routinely leaned on her for lane analysis and mental composure. She set the tone, and the team followed.

"Paige Rockwell embodies what it means to be a Fayetteville State student‑athlete, said Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett. Her excellence, consistency, and leadership elevated our program, and she leaves a legacy that will inspire Broncos for years to come."

Rolling Toward the NCAA Regionals

As Paige Rockwell and the Lady Broncos enter the NCAA Regionals, they do so with momentum, confidence, and a senior leader performing at the peak of her powers.

Few collegiate bowlers in the country bring a résumé as complete as Rockwell's:
  • A historic four‑year championship legacy
  • The conference's top traditional average her senior season
  • Multiple 200+ CIAA event performances
  • A career spanning 128 CIAA games of sustained excellence
Rockwell's final chapter is still being written — and if her past is any indication, it will be written in strikes.

The Broncos have a star at the top of their lineup.
